Not all here 'sup internets? I've had a couple of bad days, topped off by the car (the old one, not the newer one) not starting this afternoon. We're kind of rushing around frantically to get ready for our trip. We'll be gone from the 20th through the 1st, so I'm trying to get enough laundry done so we have clothes. It's complicated by that fact that we're going places that are much colder than Sacramento, so that part's fun. You know, I suspect this won't matter... God, I am SO tired of watching LJ do STUPID STUPID stuff and having people in fandom just shrug and go on with business as usual because, as someone recently said: "LJ's where the conversation is." Right now a bunch of us are pretty pissed off that LJ's gone from three gender options (female, male and unspecified) to two. And if you guessed that those two are "female" and "male" give yourself a pat on the back. You know why they're doing it, don't you? So they can do a better job targeting ads. Read all of Syne's post, too. You can't just get out of this by choosing one option or the other--specifying one of two genders will be mandatory on account creation. And if you don't get that this is offensive, then really, I've got nothing to say to you. Fortunately, both rm in a post here and thingswithwings in a post here do have things to say. I'm sure this will mean a few more people come over to DW or even IJ, but for the most part, fandom won't care. I'd love to be wrong, but each time LJ does something stupid, fandom's just shrugged and kept the conversation where it is. I don't know what it is and God I wish I did so I could figure out what to say to get people to realize that things like this hurt people. We could host the conversation here on DW, if, you know, fandom gave a damn. ETA: Supposedly this was a mistake although LJ's response sounds a little like backpedaling. See the ETA on this post and the question in the comment I linked to. |

Is there some kind of game? Some of the guys either next door or across the courtyard are yelling excitedly every once in a while. Based on the timing, it sorta sounds more like a football thing than a basketball thing.
In other news, I have a headache and I hate hate hate social anxiety. The amount of time I had to spend talking myself into making a simple phone call is ridiculous and absurd. On the good side, I made it and have an appointment with an optometrist on Saturday, the day before we leave. |

Review: BPAL's Sol Invictus Just one tonight:
From the 2009 Yule LE Line:
Sol Invictus -- "A radiant blend of solar oils: golden amber, saffron, heliotrope, hibiscus, citron, frangipani, frankincense, tangerine, mock orange, and orange blossom."
It's a somewhat heavy floral with just a touch of ambery spice under it. Mostly what I'm getting is the frangipani and the orange blossom grounded by the amber. I'd say this is an almost tropical floral for people who don't like florals. In other words, me. :) |

If you ever get the brilliant idea to... ...replace the milk the cheese sauce for baked macaroni and cheese with mostly heavy cream (I thinned it with a little milk)?
Don't.
God, I think I'm gonna die.
Thing is, other than that the fact that it was insanely rich, it was incredibly good. Half sharp cheddar, a quarter jack and a quarter blue cheese made for a nice mix of cheesy taste and melty goodness.
Oh also? It had bacon in it.
Die, I tell you. I'm gonna die. |

OMG dinner!!! So dinner tonight was all kinds of win. I made the Bacon Potato Leek Soup with a few changes* and it was utterly fantastic. I just served it with some nice sourdough rolls, but it'd be good with a salad or as the soup course in a larger meal. It was insanely easy except for the part where the only potatoes I had were baby gold and let me tell you, peeling enough baby potatoes to make four cups of diced potatoes is a big pain in the ass. And! I got to play with my stick blender! Wheeeee! I think it's my new favorite kitchen toy in terms of sheer fun. In terms of practicality, the chopper still wins. Also, I meant to say that you don't really need a stick blender or any kind of blender. It would have been good if I'd mashed with my trusty potato masher. *I forgot to get fresh thyme at the store and for some unknown reason I don't have any dried. Also, we have no cognac and I didn't really want to spend the money for some just to cook with. |

Tuesday = Box Day Leeks, a cabbage, baby bok choy, kale (or some other kind of green), a head of broccoli, yellow and red onions, tangerines, and some pears. I have potatoes already, so I'mm stop at the store on the way home and pick up some cream and some bacon so I can make Bacon Potato Leek Soup although I won't be buying cognac. |

Dear SGA Fandom.... Okay what the hell is wrong with you people?! There isn't a tag on AO3 for "puddlejumper sex"?
Or at least there wasn't.... |

*snarls* So apparently, "real people" never ever get over having an abortion/making the decision to have one.
I can't give context because it's a comment in a locked post, but wow do I get tired of hearing, from both sides of the debate, that there's something wrong with me.
I also debated flocking this but no, this is part of who I am. |

Icon Theme #36: Booty Hehe, the new theme is "booty". No, not the kind that babies wear on their feet, I mean asses, behinds, butts, or whatever else you want to call it! This theme will run until the end of January. Above the cut you'll find the screen cap for the anonymous icon and below the cut you'll find several screen caps I've included that can be used for this theme. Don't feel obligated to use these if you don't want to, just figured some people may be more willing to participate if they didn't have to look for caps themselves. Hopefully photobucket doesn't delete these but if they do feel free to let me know and I'll have to upload them somewhere else. Anonymous screen cap: ( Extra screen caps )Provide the anonymous icon in a comment to this entry. Comments are screened. Now you artists need to get to work! :D |

The Wish List Meme Step One: • Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your journal. The post should contain your list of 10 unlimited holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want. • If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. • Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your journal, so that the holiday joy will spread. Step Two: • Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part: • If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. • You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. * There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special. ( my list ) |

oh holy fuck! I just realized that, for some reason, I had blanked on the sga_santa deadline. It's next Thursday.
I haven't started yet.
Have I mentioned that I find it very hard to write with a head cold? Because yeah, I totally do.
Um....oooops? |
